Some good reasons to go to the Friday Farmer’s Market

If you needed just one good reason to go to the Friday Farmer’s Market on Callender Street, the breakfast pizza from Adagio’s would be it. I had sausage, pancetta, cheese, and the incredibly good pizza sauce on mine. I picked mine up to go and it was excellent even when I reheated it the next day. But Adagio chef and owner Jim Liska, ever one to bring a touch of Italy to Livingston, has put out some tables and coffee, so you can sit on a sunny morning and enjoy yours at a leisurely pace. (Tables have umbrellas for shade if you desire it.)
More great reasons: Robert Porte’s chocolate cake. I got one last week to take to a dinner with friends and it was a huge hit. Using ingredients like organic eggs, Belgian chocolate, and Amish butter, Robert has created a dessert that is absolutely mouth-watering. And then there were the sirloins from Indreland Ranch Angus Beef. It’s always a welcome sight to see Betsy at the Wednesday Farmer’s Market, but grabbing some steaks for the weekend on Friday is an added treat. I broiled my hormone-free sirloins on Sunday after a 50+ mile bike ride and they were a fine reward for the workout.
Jody Allen is there, too, with bok choy and other greens as well as herbs and spices, and homemade dog biscuits that my two dawgs really love. As our short growing season offers up more produce, you won’t want to miss the chance to get yours–locally and naturally grown.
You can also pick up a jar of Crazy Woman Wine Preserves. I got the Pomegranate and tried it on some of Livingston’s own Wilcoxson’s French vanilla ice cream. Oh, my.
Locally raised lamb, homemade pies, and more are also available. Expect to see more in the coming weeks.
The Friday Morning Farmers Market, unlike it’s companion Wednesday afternoon Market at Miles Park, is all about food. Look for it downtown from 7:30 to 10:00am, through Harvest Season, on Callender Street between Main and Second. Buy local! Good food from your neighbors. Brought to you by the Corporation for the Northern Rockies and their generous sponsors.
