Hypocrisy, thy name is Palin. Or is it Bush, thy name is Palin?

All my life I have hated bullies and liars. No wonder it was so hard to watch the Republican Convention last night. I’ll leave it to the press to sort out the lies and hypocrisy; it is way too exhaustive a list.

But I do want to register my dismay that the Republicans continue to diss us grass roots folks while parading Small Town Sarah as their newest mascot. As the Obama campaign put it:

Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.

How can you say out of one side of your mouth that your platform is about service to America and then mock and insult community organizing?

Does this combo of smugness and superficiality remind you of anyone? Mayhill Fowler hit it right on the head in her observation that it is Palin, not McCain who is Bush III. Since Palin’s recent arrival on the scene, the Republicans and the McCain campaign are in Bush revival mode; that is, without the unpopular guy himself, they are tapping in to their base’s willingness to accept certitudes instead of depth. Or truth. But then anyone who would vote for John McCain after what he has done during this long campaign is not interested in truth.
